Climate change: Scottish National Adaptation Plan 2024 - 2029 - easy read

Easy read version of the Scottish National Adaptation Plan 2024-29. The Adaptation Plan sets out the actions that the Scottish Government and partners will take to respond to the impacts of climate change from 2024 to 2029.


Key Actions in the Plan

Make sure all parts of Scotland are working together to be more prepared for climate change, including supporting vulnerable communities.

Give better flood warnings for communities and businesses across Scotland. Build better drainage for rain in towns and cities to reduce flooding.

Help households and communities cope with both too much and too little water.

Make sure at least half of all funding for farming is for projects that are good for the climate and nature.

Spend £400 million over the next 5 years to make Scotland’s railway system better.

Help businesses, communities and organisations improve their skills and adapt.

Set up a new website to give people tools, resources and advice on adaptation.

Make new tools and advice to help businesses. This will include a guide to help them understand what action they can take.

Set up a new system to help us know where we are adapting well and where we need to improve. Report yearly to the Scottish Parliament. Share the best ways of working with partners around the world.

Support our island communities through new and better ferry services. Make sure the ferry service is not affected by weather.

Help communities around the world that have been impacted by climate change through our Climate Justice Fund.

Work to improve everyone’s long-term health, including during floods, heatwaves and other severe weather. Deliver climate actions across NHS Scotland.

Help people understand climate change though art and culture, and looking after our traditional buildings, libraries and historic sites.

Set up the Public Sector Climate Adaptation Network. This will give training and share the best ways of working.
