Statistics on the Scottish fishing fleet and its catches in 2013
Introduction
In 2013, Scottish based vessels landed a total of 367 thousand tonnes of sea fish and shellfish, with a corresponding value of £430 million. This represents a nine per cent decrease in value in real terms compared to 2012. There was a half of one per cent increase in the quantity landed compared to 2012.
There were 2,020 active Scottish based vessels in 2013, the lowest recorded number of vessels and 26 less than in the previous year. These vessels employed a total of 4,992 fishermen, an increase of five per cent from 2012.
Quantity and value of landings of all species by Scottish vessels
This Scottish Sea Fisheries Statistics publication provides a detailed overview of the quantity and value of landings of sea fish and shellfish by Scottish vessels and landings into Scotland. Landings data are provided according to:
- Vessel nationality
- Country and district of landing
- Area of capture
- Fishing gear used
- Vessel size
Data on landings by other UK vessels and landings into the UK is also provided. All landings quantities are given in terms of live weight.
