Scottish Vacant and Derelict Land Survey 2023
The Scottish Vacant and Derelict Land Survey (SVDLS) is a data collection to establish the extent and state of vacant and derelict land in Scotland.
9. Derelict and Urban Vacant Land: Previous Uses and Development Potential
More than a fifth (21%) of derelict land had previously been used for mineral activity. A fifth had been used for manufacturing. For urban vacant land, 13% had been used for manufacturing and a further 13% had former residential use.
Nearly half (43%) of urban vacant land is considered to be developable in the short-term (within 5 years). This is lower for derelict land at 19%. However more than half (54%) of derelict land is considered developable within 10 years.
