Senior Civil Service recruitment: candidate guide
A detailed guide for applicants interested in applying for a Senior Civil Service role with the Scottish Government.
Hybrid working
We offer hybrid working where business needs allow, and this may, for some roles, allow working in a Scottish Government office closer to home (where suitable facilities are available) or some home working. This is a non-contractual arrangement and current policy requires all employees to spend some time every week in a Scottish Government office and / or with stakeholders each week.
The contractual location will be the designated place of work for the department or team the role is based in. Any remote or home working arrangement does not constitute a change to your designated place of work or contractual terms and conditions.
There would still be a requirement to attend the contractual location as and when necessary to meet business needs. Successful candidates will be expected to pay for their commute to their normal place of work and are responsible for any travel and subsistence costs associated with this.
Senior Civil Servants in employment with the Scottish Government will also regularly need to attend Scottish Government head offices, including St. Andrew’s House, Edinburgh. Senior Civil Servants should expect a level of travel to be associated with their role, subject to the requirements of the appointment.
