A list of organisations awarded funding from the Small Grants Programme for international development in 2020 to 2021.

Feasibility Study Grants

Organisation: Smileawi

Total funding: £13,470

This feasibility study aims to support Smileawi, Malawian stakeholders and Bridge2Aid to test the model of “task shifting” basic training for emergency dentistry to Malawi’s existing network of Medical Assistants who operate in rural areas where no dental services are currently available through a field trial in Jenda, Northern Region. 

Organisation: Wasteaid

Total funding: £15,000

This feasibility study aims to support Wasteaid and ICCM to assess the capacity building needs of different groups of local stakeholders to tackle waste management in north and south Malawi, to identify appropriate lines of action, and to produce a plan for follow-on work.

Organisation: Kilcheran

Total funding: £14,960

This feasibility study aims to support Kilcheran and Kho&Kalashi to test the results and establishment of mobile vocational skills training centres, “Labs”, focussing on women from communities in remote rural areas of the Chitral Valley in northern Pakistan.

Organisation: Lake Victoria Disability Centre Scotland

Total funding: £15,000

This feasibility study aims to support Lake Victoria Disability Centre Scotland (LVDCS) and its partner LVDC to trial the implementation of a mobile clinic to treat club foot in the Mara region of Tanzania and assess how different outreach strategies can best reach babies and adults with this disability and establish systems of support.

Capacity Building Grants

Organisation: St Francis Hospital Zambia Twinning Partnership with NHS Borders SCIO (‘The Logie Legacy’)

Total funding: £14,300

This capacity building proposal aims to develop the capacity of St. Francis Hospital, Zambia Twinning Partnership with NHS Borders SCIO (the Logie Legacy) to undertake an impact review of their work which would then inform subsequent work to develop internal SOPs for project selection, planning and MEL to be used in their activities, an improved partnership framework with their partner hospital in Eastern Zambia, and, to build Board members’ MEL capacity.

Organisation: On Call Africa

Total funding: £15,000

This capacity building proposal aims to support On Call Africa’s improvement of its monitoring and evaluation systems, including through the development of an app, a technical tool for data collection and monitoring and evaluating for use by the Community Health Workers involved in On Call Africa’s work in the field in Southern Zambia.

Organisation: Zambia Therapeutic Art

Total funding: £14,850

This capacity building proposal aims to develop the capacity of Zambia Therapeutic Art’s in-country stakeholders, a currently informal group of Zambian Therapeutic Art Trainers centred around Lusaka, into a standalone and self-sustaining organisation through a combination of business modelling and formal registration support, safeguarding/E&D policy development, MEL support for a strengthened evidence base and advocacy with stakeholders. 

Organisation: International Voluntary Service

Total funding: £14,985

This capacity building proposal for International Voluntary Service and their centrally-based Kenyan partner, Roko 20, aims to build on previous work and produce more effective digital tools for training, communications, partner relationship management and monitoring & evaluation. These two organisations will collaborate with a third, Scotland-based partner, Classrooms for Malawi, to share experience and learning.

Total funding: £15,000

This capacity building proposal aims to develop the capacity of Africa on the ball (AOTB) and their partners, Kalingalinga on the ball (KOTB), in Lusaka, Zambia by evaluating and strengthening skills and resources in fundraising, governance, and monitoring & evaluation.

Organisation: Charity Education International

Total funding: £15,000

This capacity building proposal aims to develop the capacity of Charity Education International’s in-country partner in northern Bangladesh, UttarBangla University College (UUC), to improve student and staff attendance and morale through the introduction of new monitoring and award systems and the delivery of motivational training.
