Social Security - Adult Disability Payment consultation: Scottish Government response - easy read
An easy read version of the Scottish Government's response to the Adult Disability Payment consultation.
Scoring System
Some were worried about keeping the points scoring system and the medical focus of this approach.
Some felt that the points scoring system goes against the social model of disability. They felt it does not cover wider factors that affect many disabled people and people with long term health conditions.
Scottish Government Reply
We are making a number of changes to the way decisions are made on an application. These will make sure that the full impact of a disability or health condition on an individual is understood and taken into account.
The Scottish Government wants to move away from a medical model of disability. This is why we have removed physical examinations and the Mental State Examination. If we need to speak with a client, a practitioner will ask the client about the full impact of doing an activity.
