This report contains the quantitative research findings from the Social Security Experience Panels’ ‘About Your Benefits and You’ research.
Key findings
- The research shows that we have range of respondents across gender, age range, and location within Scotland. Respondents also have a range of disabilities and long term health conditions, different additional support needs, and there are respondents both with and without caring responsibilities. This includes groups who are often under represented such as people with mental health conditions or hearing loss.
- More than half (60 per cent) of respondents rated their experience of the current benefits system as 'poor' or 'very poor'. 18 per cent rated their experience as 'good' or 'very good'.
- The majority of respondents (71 per cent) listed 'advice and support about claiming' as a priority for Scottish Government to improve in the new social security system. More than half listed 'applying for a benefit'.
