Spending on new infrastructure of the A77 and A75: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.


Information requested

You asked for " the spending on new infrastructure of the A77 and A75 by scheme and by completion date since 2007, and the total spending on similar schemes elsewhere in Scotland. 

Also could I ask to many Road closures have resulted with diversions on both A77 and A75 over the same period. 

Response is preferred in email. 

On 27 June, you clarified the following:- 

"In the case of A77 road closures with diversions in either or both directions north and south. A75 road closures with diversions in either direction or both east and west" 

Response

Regarding the A77, since 2007, approximately £64 million has been spent on five separate road schemes on the A77. These are:- 

 

  • Maybole bypass - £29m, opened January 2022. 
  • Haggstone Climbing Lane & A77 Glen App Improvements - £18.7m, opened December 2008
  • Park End to Bennane - £5.5m, opened July 2011 
  • Symington to Bogend Toll - £10.6m, opened May 2014 

Schemes on the A75 are as follows:

  • Dunragit Bypass - £17.5m, opened March 2014
  • Hardgrove - £8.2m , opened July 2014 
  • Cairntop to Barlae - £6.5m, opened October 2010
  • Mossyard - £0.35m, in preparation 

Regarding the total spending on similar schemes elsewhere in Scotland, while our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance the Transport Scotland does not have the information you have requested. Therefore we are refusing your request under the exception at regulation 10(4) 

(a) of the EIRs. This is because Transport Scotland does not have a category of spend for projects similar to those undertaken on A75 and A77 since 2007. 

2. You asked how many road closures have resulted with diversions on both A77 and A75 over the same period. 

Under the terms of the exception at regulation 10(4)(a) of the EIRs (information not held), Transport Scotland is not required to provide information which it does not have. We do not have some of the information you have requested. This is because Transport Scotland no longer holds data regarding how many road closures have resulted with diversions on both A77 and A75 for the period 01/01/2007 to 03/01/2014. 

The A75 and A77 form part of the south west trunk road network which is maintained by Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland. The current south west contract commenced 16/08/2020. Please see Annex A to this response for the information you requested regarding how many road closures have resulted with diversions on the A75 trunk road. This is for the period 16/08/2020 to 20/06/2023. The annex indicates several duplicates relating to the same schemes. This is a result of how the works are plotted on the system that could indicate northbound or southbound therefore the number would be reduced. 

Please see Annex B to this response for the information you requested regarding how many road closures have resulted with diversions on the A77 trunk road. This is for the period 16/08/2020 to 05/07/2023. The attached report indicates several duplicates relating to the same schemes this is a result of how the works are plotted on the system that could indicate eastbound or westbound therefore the number would be reduced. 

Please see Annex C to this response for the information you requested regarding how many road closures have resulted with diversions for both the A77 and A75 trunk roads. This is for the period 04/01/2014 to 15/08/2020.
