Cross Justice Working Group on Race Data and Evidence: Collecting and using staff equality data in the justice sector

Information for justice organisations on collecting staff equality data.

Storing data

We must handle all staff equality data in accordance with data protection legislation. This means we need to be aware of which EDI data is classified as special category data, and as such is afforded extra protection. Data collection should be proportionate and kept to a minimum. We should only use data for its stated purpose. Data that was collected for monitoring should not be used for other purposes. We should complete a Data Protection Impact Assessment and make a privacy notice available.
