Annex A – Planning and reporting cycle timeline (example year 2024/25)
Scottish Government
January to June 2024
Implements the priorities set out in the 2024 NIF and improvement plan.
July to December 2024
Continued implementation of the priorities set out in the 2024 NIF and improvement plan.
Review of 2024 NIF, in consultation with key stakeholders.
December – publish 2025 NIF and Improvement plan, informed by education authority plans for 2024-2025 school year and national data/evidence.
Local authorities
January to June 2024
Continued education authority implementation of the plan and priorities within schools and ELC settings for the year 2023-24.
April – July – education authority planning process for school year 2024-25 is undertaken.
This planning process will draw on the Feb-June 2024 school planning process and will include progress against priorities identified in the education authority plan for the 2023-24 school year. It will also take account of the statutory guidance and the 2024 NIF and Improvement Plan.
The statutory plan should be published as soon as practically possible after 31 August.
July to December 2024
August – publish statutory plan and priorities for school year 2024-25. This plan will be informed by the Feb-June 2024 school improvement planning process. It will also take into account the priorities set out in the 2024 NIF and Improvement Plan.
September to December - analyse outcome of implementing its previous statutory plan and publishes report as soon as reasonably practicable after 31st August. This report will detail progress against the priorities set out in the plan covering school year 2023-24. (This is an indicative timescale to reflect existing education authority reporting and internal clearance processes).
Schools
January to June 2024
February to June – development and publication of school improvement plans.
July to December 2024
Implement the priorities of the education authority’s plan for the school year 2024-25.
