Collision Risk Models (CRM) are used to understand potential wind farm effects on seabirds by estimating collision mortality.
Collision Risk Models (CRM) are used to understand potential wind farm effects on seabirds by estimating collision mortality. To improve the estimates of these models, Marine Scotland commissioned HiDef Aerial Surveying Limited to create a CRM model that incorporates uncertainty/variability in input parameters into the predicted collision number.
The new stochastic CRM (sCRM) was also built with improvements requested by surveyed stakeholders. These changes included:
- a user-friendly interface for non-R users
- faster code
- user input for number of turbines
- output predicted collision probability data
- seasonal (as well as monthly & annual) assessment (default + user defined)
- error checking inputs and collision probability
- monthly or seasonal flight height inputs
The sCRM is now available as:
The tool also comes with a user guide and full report detailing the scope, method, and outputs of the project
