Summary statistics for Follow- Up Leaver Destinations, No. 6: 2024 Edition

This statistical publication provides information on the follow-up destinations, nine months after the end of the school year, of 2022-23 school leavers from publicly funded secondary schools in Scotland.


Summary Statistics for Follow-up Destinations, 2022-23

The percentage of school leavers in positive destinations and other destinations:
92.8% of 2022-23 school leavers were in a positive destination and 7.2% were in an 'other' destination.

92.8% of 2022-23 school leavers were in a positive follow-up destination. This is down from 93.5% in 2021-22.

The percentage of school leavers in each positive destination:
The most common destination for 2022-23 school leavers was Higher Education (37.1%). This was followed by Employment (31.2% and Further Education (21.2%).

37.1% of 2022-23 school leavers were in Higher Education, down from 37.7% in 2021-22.

21.2% of 2022-23 school leavers were in Further Education, up from 20.7% in 2021-22.

31.2% of 2022-23 school leavers were in Employment, down from 31.8% in 2021-22.

The percentage of school leavers whose follow-up destination was the same as their initial destination:
95.1% of 2022-23 school leavers who were in a positive initial destination 3 months after the end of the school year were still in a positive follow-up destination 9 months after the end of the school year. And 64% of those in an 'other' initial destination were also in an 'other' follow-up destination.

In 2022-23, 95.1% of school leavers who were in a positive initial destination were also in a positive follow-up destination (down from 95.7% in 2021-22). 64.0% of school leavers who were in an ‘other’ initial destination were also in an ‘other’ follow up destination (up from 58.7% in 2021-22).
