Biodiversity - strategic framework: consultation analysis
A summary and analysis of responses received to our public consultation on Scotland’s strategic framework for biodiversity 'Tackling the nature emergency', which ran from September to December 2023.
Section One: Scottish Biodiversity Strategy
The present consultation document sets out the updated version of the Scottish Biodiversity Strategy to 2045: Tackling the Nature Emergency in Scotland, follows a previous consultation on the draft Strategy in 2022, and takes into account responses to the previous consultation.
The present consultation does not ask any specific questions relating to the final Scottish Biodiversity Strategy, but includes it for reference and consideration for further sections. The final Scottish Biodiversity Strategy is subject to the Impact Assessments for Part A of the consultation, the response to which is outlined in Section Five of this report. A short summary of the strategy is outlined below.
This strategy sets out a clear ambition: for Scotland to be Nature Positive by 2030, and to have restored and regenerated biodiversity across the country by 2045. The Scottish Government's vision is: by 2045, Scotland will have restored and regenerated biodiversity across our land, freshwater and seas.
To deliver the vision, the Scottish Government have identified a detailed set of Outcomes which help us to define and understand what success will look like by 2045. These Outcomes will be achieved through detailed actions set out in Delivery Plans.
The Strategy identifies the following six objectives:
The actions in the proposed Biodiversity Delivery Plan are organised around these objectives.
