Teaching Qualification (Further Education) (Scotland) Determination 2021

A determination in exercise of powers given to ministers by article 30 of the Public Services Reform (General Teaching Council for Scotland) Order 2011.


The Scottish Ministers make the following Determination in exercise of the powers conferred by article 30 of the Public Services Reform (General Teaching Council for Scotland) Order 2011 and all other powers enabling them to do so.

Citation and effect

1. This Determination may be cited as the Teaching Qualification (Further Education) (Scotland) Determination 2021 and has effect from 10 November 2021.

Making of Determination

2. The Scottish Ministers (who can determine what constitutes a recognised teaching qualification for individuals seeking registration as a further education teacher) make the determinations set out in paragraphs 3 and 4.

Institutions providing courses leading to the Teaching Qualification (Further Education)

3.—(1) The institutions listed in sub-paragraph (2) may provide courses of education and training leading to the Teaching Qualification (Further Education).

(2) The institutions are-

(a) The University of Aberdeen

(b) The University of Dundee

(c) The University of Stirling

(d) The University of the Highlands and Islands

Content of the Teaching Qualification (Further Education) Programme

4. The Teaching Qualification (Further Education) Programme must adhere to the requirements of the Professional Standards for Lecturers in Scotland’s Colleges (first published by the General Teaching Council for Scotland in 2018).
