Timescales for pension estimates for deferred and active members: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

Information requested

Statistics under FOI in regard to the time for pension estimates provision from application for deferred members and active members over the last year.

Response

From the period 01/04/2022 – 31/03/2023, 215 estimate requests were received for active members and on average, a response was provided within 36 days.

From the period 01/04/2022 – 31/03/2023, 530 estimate requests were received for deferred members and on average, a response was provided within 152 days.

Due to our current operational challenges and preparation for remedy we are dealing with estimates on an interim prioritisation basis. We are currently completing estimate requests prioritising those within 12 months of retirement or ill health, pensions sharing or special circumstances. This drives our order of prioritisation rather than chronological and we will advise the Pensions Regulator of this.

We are currently working through the detail and can confirm we do not prioritise active over deferred, however the prioritisation criteria we are using may give that impression.

Currently our estimates for people within 12 months who are remedy affected will be incorrect - but the above still stands.
