Total cost for health and wellbeing census 2023: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002

Information requested

You asked for the total cost of producing the health and wellbeing census in 2023.

Response

The answer to your question is there was no Health and Wellbeing (HWB) Census in 2023. The first HWB Census was undertaken in the 2021/22 school year. The Health and Wellbeing Census is not a single national Scottish Government Health and Wellbeing Census, but 32 individual local authority Health and Wellbeing Censuses. Local authorities share their data with Scottish Government to enable national reporting. The Scottish Government worked collaboratively with stakeholders to produce a consistent set of materials and technology to self-administer their own HWB Census.

The materials used in 2021/22 remain available for local authorities to use at any point they choose.

The costs involved in the development of the HWB Census 2022 are available in the response to FOI202200271637. These costs are ongoing annual costs. The SmartSurvey license allows local authorities to use the platform for other digital data collections (such as the Parental Involvement and Engagement Census) and other surveys that local authorities themselves wish to undertake that are compliant with the Data Processor Agreement.
