Transgender cervical screening process: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

Information requested

Please supply communications, including minutes of meetings, attendances and decision making process, when the decision was made to include transgender people in the cervical screening process. Please supply the cost of this for NHS Scotland.

Response

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance the Scottish Government does not have the information you have requested. The reason that we don't have this information is that eligibility into the Cervical Screening Programme is based on the presence or absence of a cervix and not based on gender. Individuals with a cervix have always been eligible for cervical screening.
