UK innovation survey 2023 – results for Scotland

Scotland's results from the UK Innovation Survey 2023, covering the three-year period from 2020 to 2022

Co-operation Arrangements

Co-operation occurs when two or more participants agree to take responsibility for a task or series of tasks and information is shared between the parties to facilitate the agreement.

In UKIS 2023 the co-operation question was asked slightly differently to previous surveys. A filter question was introduced, so that businesses who did not co-operate with other businesses or organisations were no longer asked detailed breakdowns on their collaboration activities. Responses to the questions have been somewhat different and for this reason information is only presented for UKIS 2023 (reporting period 2020 to 2022).

Figure 9: For both Scotland and the UK, ‘Suppliers of equipment, materials, services or software’ and ‘other businesses within your enterprise group’ were the most common types of co-operation partners amongst broader innovator businesses that co-operate.

Percentage of co-operating broader innovator businesses that co-operate with each type of co-operation partner, Scotland and the UK, 2020-2022.

A bar chart showing that for both Scotland and the UK, in 2020-2022, ‘Suppliers of equipment, materials, services or software’ and ‘other businesses within your enterprise group’ were the most common types of co-operation partners amongst broader innovator businesses that co-operate.
