Welcome accommodation
The estimated number of displaced people from Ukraine in welcome accommodation, as well as the number of welcome accommodation rooms and ship cabins occupied, are on an overall decreasing trend since January. As reported by welcome accommodation teams across Scotland on 5 June, there were around 1,675 welcome accommodation rooms and 505 ship cabins on the M/S Victoria occupied by displaced people from Ukraine in welcome accommodation in Scotland. This is a decrease from around 2,075 welcome accommodation rooms and around 665 ship cabins on board MS Victoria occupied as reported on 28 March 2023 (figure 1). Total number of occupied rooms concerns the number of welcome accommodation rooms or cabins occupied by displaced people from Ukraine in Scotland as they await being matched with their hosts, but does not indicate the number of displaced people from Ukraine in each room or cabin. The number of displaced people from Ukraine in welcome accommodation on the M/S Victoria is reported directly by operational teams.
By 5 June, 1,215 guests had disembarked M/S Victoria since 26 July 2022. The contract for M/S Victoria ends on 11 July 2023. Joint efforts to support guests into matched or alternative welcome accommodation by Scottish Government and City of Edinburgh Council Resettlement teams are ongoing to safely disembark the ship ahead of the end of the ship’s contract. A timeseries of the number of guests and occupied cabins or rooms in welcome accommodation each week since 28 March 2023.
