Total numbers of visa applications, issued visas and arrivals

According to the latest DLUHC statistics up to 20 September, Scotland has received a total number of 40,802 visa applications (Table 1 and Figure 1), of which 88% (35,754) were for the Scottish Super Sponsor Scheme and 12% (5,048) were for the Ukraine Sponsorship Scheme (a named and known individual sponsor). So far, Scotland has received 28% of all the visa applications made in the UK. This compares to 65% of total applications received for England, 6% for Wales and 1% for Northern Ireland. Please note UK figures are calculated by summing up nation level visa application figures from Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland linked above. These figures do not include applications that do not have a country assigned.

Total number of visas issued in Scotland by 20 September 2022 was at 35,122 (Table 1 and Figure 1). Out of these, 13% (4,630) of visas were issued for the Ukraine Sponsorship Scheme and 87% (30,492) of total visas were issued for the Scottish Super Sponsor Scheme. England had the largest share of UK visas issued at 66%, followed by Scotland (26%), Wales  (6%) and Northern Ireland (1%).  Please note UK figures are calculated by summing up nation level figures on issued visas from Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland linked above. These figures do not include applications that do not have a country assigned.

As of 20 September 2022, a total number of 18,411 displaced people from Ukraine had arrived on a visa with a Scottish sponsor (Table 1 and Figure 1). Out of these, 19% (3,559) were sponsored by named and known Individual Sponsors and 81% (14,852) were sponsored by the Scottish Government. England had the highest proportion of UK arrivals at 74%, followed by Scotland (20%), Wales (6%) and Northern Ireland (1%). The number of arrivals into the UK is not necessarily reflective of the persons having arrived at the sponsors location.

This line chart shows visas issued in blue, visa applications in light blue and arrivals in dark blue, which are sponsored by individuals (dotted line), by the Scottish Government (dashed line) and total (full line). There was a steep increase in visa applications and visas issued for individuals sponsored by the Scottish Government in mid-June. Visas issued for individuals sponsored by the Scottish Government started levelling off at the beginning of August after the pause of Scottish Super Sponsor Scheme visa applications on 13 July.  Arrivals of individuals sponsored by the Scottish Government show a steadily increasing trend.
