Vision for sustainable aquaculture: child rights and wellbeing screening sheet
Child rights and wellbeing screening sheet for the Vision for sustainable aquaculture
Child Rights and Wellbeing Screening Sheet for Vision for Sustainable Aquaculture
1. Brief Summary
The objective of the Vision for Sustainable Aquaculture is to provide clarity on Scottish Government’s long term ambitions for the sustainable development of the finfish, shellfish and seaweed farming sectors, with an enhanced emphasis on environmental protection and community benefits
The Vision for Sustainable Aquaculture outcomes cover economic, environmental and social dimensions and hence link to almost all of the National Performance Outcomes
2. What aspects of the policy/measure will affect children and young people up to the age of 18?
Although the Vision for Sustainable Aquaculture does not set out any new direct policies in which may affect children and young people, it does signal support for businesses connecting with educators to raise the profile of aquaculture careers and equip more people with the skills needed to work in the modern aquaculture sector. Achieving this outcome will largely be driven by the Commission For Land Based Learning, which includes aquaculture within its scope.
3. What likely impact – direct or indirect – will the policy/measure have on children and young people?
The Vision for Sustainable Aquaculture sets Scottish Government’s long term ambitions for the sustainable development of the finfish, shellfish and seaweed farming sectors. As the Vision sets out high level aims and outcomes we are unable to determine at this stage whether there would be any direct or indirect impacts on children or young people. Subsequent policy work carried out as a result of the Vision’s outcomes will consider the potential impacts on children and young people and the need for full Child Rights and Wellbeing impact assessments to be carried out.
4. Which groups of children and young people will be affected?
See Question 3 - we cannot determine the likely impact at this stage.
5. Is a Children’s Rights and Wellbeing Impact Assessment required?
Please state if a CRWIA will be carried out or not. Please explain your reasons.
No - We did not deem it proportionate to carry out a Children’s Rights and Wellbeing Impact Assessment, due to the high level nature of the Vision which does not set out any new policies which we consider to impact on children or young people. Subsequent policy work carried out as a result of the Vision’s outcomes will consider the potential impacts on children and young people and the need for full Child Rights and Wellbeing impact assessments to be carried out.
