The monitor brings together a range of indicators to provide a baseline for assessing progress towards the development of a wellbeing economy in Scotland.

Natural capital

A collection of two charts showing trends in greenhouse gas emissions and biodiversity.  These are shown in more detail, with written descriptions, below.

Human capital

A collection of five charts showing trends in low or no qualifications; active travel; preventable deaths; relative poverty and child poverty.  These are shown in more detail, with written descriptions, below.

Social capital

A collection of two charts showing trends in gender pay gap and young people's participation.  These are shown in more detail, with written descriptions, below.

Produced and financial capital

A collection of five charts showing trends in investment; income inequality; wealth inequality; community ownership and employees below the living wage.  These are shown in more detail, with written descriptions, below.

Technical notes:

Where possible, comparisons have been provided between Scotland and the other participant countries of the Wellbeing Economy Governments (WEGo) group.

Data provided in this update is the latest available on 1 December 2022. It will be updated in 2023.

Time series have been presented from 2000 to the most recent period, where data availability allows.
